TMNT Mega Construx Review, Part Sixteen - The Nick Series Continued

Hello everyone,

Today I am going to continue my long running review series of the TMNT Mega Bloks / Construx line. I'll be looking at seven sets, plus blind bag series five.

If you would like to catch up on my previous reviews, you can check out my dedicated TMNT review index, here.

Let's start with the Leo Sewer Skate set, which is set number DYK10, and includes 48 pieces, including one minifigure.

I would give this set three and a half out of five. It's a time worn process evaluating these sets for their genuine merits now. In sixteen parts, there are surprisingly few sets that honestly are completely different and unique. It's unfortunate, but it's true. Here we have another Leo variant figure, and another sewer scene. There really isn't much more to it than that.

Next up is the Mikey Stealth Tour Trike, which is set number FFC54, and contains 64 pieces, including one minifigure.

I would give this set also three and a half out of five. You're going to see a trend in this review - it's sort of like politics - more of the same! Actually, one point to note here is that the trike is especially top heavy by design, and is prone to toppling over.

Next up is Raph Stealth Spyder, which contains 63 pieces, including one minifigure, and is set number FFC55.

Three and half out of five, again! I like the tire marks across Raph's front, though, it's a cute detail.

The next set is Raph Sewer Surf, which is set number DYK11, and contains 49 pieces, including one minifigure.

I would give this set four out of five for the pure fact that Raph for once looks happy, and more hippie-like, complete with his skull adorned lei! It makes him very Michelangelo. (I don't know that hippies would put skulls on a lei, but it's a Raph "twist".)

The next set is Shredder's Throne Battle, which contains 85 pieces, including three minifigures, and is set number FFC57.

I would give this set four out of five. The throne room concept could have been much more, but alas, we just have a throne. We do however get a scarred Oroku Saki head, and an interchangeable helmet, so that's fun. Leo's catapult contraption makes it hard for him to stand, and I'm not sure it's altogether practical, especially for a ninja.

Next up is Sewer Subway Chase. It is set number FFC63, and contains 288 pieces, including two minifigures.

I would give this set four out five, almost purely for the fact that it has Fishface in it! He's an awesome figure, and I love all the details, like the pipes coming out the sides of him! If you want to make some sort of underground scene that encapsulates more than just sewers, this set also gives us a vague subway platform.

Next up is Shellraiser Showdown, which is set number FFC64, and contains 376 pieces, including three minifigures.

I'm giving this set four and half out of five, for two reasons, really. One, it is another Donnie set (Donnie is vastly outnumbered in the sets he gets, sadly), and two, it has Super Shredder and Casey Jones as the additional figures. I loved Casey from this series, and he didn't get anywhere near the love he should have in toys or this range from Mega Bloks, so I am doing all the loving for him. Super Shredder is pretty neat to have, especially since we've already had multiple variations on the regular Shredder. He looks pretty fierce! The Shellraiser itself is kind of basic looking, and doesn't compare to the LEGO one (which you can read my review of, here), but it's fun nonetheless.

Finally, we come to the series five blind bags.

The front and the back of the minifigures (eight in total):

Compared to the previous blind bag series, unfortunately, this one is very lacklustre. Rahzar is identical (100%) to the Rahzar from the Raph Rooftop Blast-Out set (which I reviewed, here). They didn't even try to give us a different one! I do like that we get April's tessen (the ninja fan she uses), and the pizza Mikey holds nods to the nightmarish Pizza Face character from the TV series, which is fun. Other than that, it's a fairly dull set.

Have a great day everyone,

Dan.
