TMNT Mega Bloks Review, Part Five - The Movie Range Continued

Hello everyone,

In this next part of my ongoing TMNT Mega Bloks series I am going to take a look at three more sets from the movie range.

If you want to catch up with my previous TMNT Mega Bloks reviews, you can find them at the links, below:

Part one - The Classic Series
Part two - The Nickelodeon Series
Part three - The Movie Range
Part four - The Classic Party Wagon

The first set we're going to look at is Raph Street Strike, which is set number DPF80. The set contains 122 pieces, including two minifigures.

I would give this set four and half out of five. I like that it includes a vehicle that can actually be seen in the movie. There is also a sewer cover throwing device (which isn't in the movie, not in this format anyway), and of course the two minifigures. The vehicle itself has a working light on the front, which adds some realism to the set. Over all it isn't the most amazing set in the world, but it does come directly from the movie, and the light-up piece and the minifigures are cool. With this being such a simple set, there isn't really anything else I can say about it.

The next set is Kraang Cryo Chamber, which is set number DRK00, and can be purchased on Amazon.com, here. The set contains 77 pieces, including three minifigures.

It should be noted that I have not spelled Kraang wrong, as that is how it is on the box, however, I am aware that in the movie his name is spelled Krang (interestingly, Playmates Toys have also spelled his name "aa" on their action figure of him. I wonder if originally the movie creators were going to spell it that way but later changed their minds?).

I would give this set five out of five. I really love the Kraang minifigure; I think they did a really good job of trying to get as much detail onto him as possible. The other two figures are neat, with Raphael being my least favourite, since he is virtually identical to the one in the Street Strike set I reviewed above, save for his facial expression. This is another light-up set, with the purple thing in the cryo chamber being the light-up object in this one. Along with the misspelled Kraang name, there is another oddity about this particular set. While I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it, I can tell you now, this scene does not happen in this way! Sure, someone does get frozen, but it doesn't happen in any cryo chamber! Again, I wonder if it is a case of the sets were produced before the creators of the movie changed their minds. Anyway, over all I really like this set. Kraang really makes it worth it for me, and the chamber, whether in the movie or not, is neat with its light-up piece.

The final set I am going to look at for this review is Jungle Takedown, which is set number DPF81, and can be purchased here on Amazon.com, here. The set contains 273 pieces, including two minifigures.

I would give this set five out of five. The tank actually looks really good, and it also has light and sound, which really brings it to life. Rocksteady and Michelangelo are a good combination of minifigures to get, and the cannon on the side fires, as does the ground cannon (though there was never a ground one in this scene in the movie). The tracks on the bottom of the tank move with relative ease, and the top part of swivels around. Over all this is a fun set, with a lot of elements to bring the set to life such as the moving parts, firing cannons and the light and sound element.

That's all for this particular review, but in the next week or so I will be taking a look at some more of the TMNT movie range from Mega Bloks.

Have a great day everyone,

Dan.
