Star Wars Smuggler's Bounty - Debut Box Review

Hello everyone,

November was the debut month of the brand new Star Wars Smuggler's Bounty box, which follows along similar lines to the Marvel Collector Corps (which I have been reviewing here on the Two Lost Boys blog).

Like the Collector Corps, the Smuggler's Bounty is run by Funko, who make the popular Pop Vinyls. The price is $25 every other month, plus shipping and any applicable taxes. Their website claims that the boxes have a $50 value - so let's take a look at the first box to see what we got, and if it was worth it!

The outside of the box:

Just like the Marvel box, under the first flap are a pin and patch.

Under that we find a lanyard and a t-shirt. Under the t-shirt are two bobblehead Pop Vinyl figures.

Pins are a good thing for Jon and I, as we collect pins anyway. The patch, like with every Marvel box, is pretty redundant to us, but I suppose is unique at least.

The t-shirt I found to be a little uninspired for the very first month. It has the logo and the new style Stormtrooper of course, but it really isn't anything special.

As far as lanyards go, again, a fairly basic design. Nothing too special, with the Stormtrooper being very similar to the one on the t-shirt.

The bobbleheads are always cool things to receive in any box, especially since they are exclusives, and Jon and I collect a lot of Pop Vinyl stuff anyway. However, again for a first month, without trying to be too harsh, I didn't find them overly inspired. Maybe this movie has already had so much hype that I am blind to anything cool looking at the moment, but I just didn't think they were amazing; they were just ok.

Overall, I would give this box three and a half out of five. I was torn about this one. I really wanted to like it, but I found it somewhat underwhelming, especially given how massive this movie is going to be.

The next box will be in January, so hopefully by then, once the movie has been out for a while, there will be some more inspired contents.

Dan.
